5 Ways to Get More Out of Passage

How to use Passage as a real vocabulary-building tool, not just a word puzzle.

Make it a daily habit

The most effective vocabulary learning happens in short, frequent sessions. One Passage session (5 puzzles + 3 review rounds) takes about 15–20 minutes — perfect for a commute or a lunch break.

Use the matching rounds seriously

After puzzles 2, 4, and 5, Passage tests you with translation matching. Don't rush through it. These rounds are where the vocabulary actually sticks.

Change the hint language

If you're learning Spanish, try setting your puzzle language to Spanish and your hint language to Spanish too — so the definitions are in Spanish. This forces you to process the word in context rather than translating.

Try a harder level

Most players start on Middle School. If a category feels too easy, bump it to High School or Expert. The Expert level includes rare and technical vocabulary that even native speakers find interesting.

Use the Glossary to preview

Before starting a puzzle, open the Glossary and browse the category you're about to play. Seeing the words once before hunting for them dramatically improves how many you remember afterwards.
